The Circle Poem

9
by Emily Toder
A circle was dangling over me
it was full of matter
I began to smack it
it began to sprinkle
I got the matter all over me
it was like a birdfeeder
it was like the time in the cake
I did not know what it was suspended from
I am not suspended from anything, it said
I thought I knew what it was suspended from
probably this copper enormity
We all dangle somewhere, I cooed to it
it didn’t like me
flurries came out of it and it flurried for a long time
weapons and rebates came out of it
an empty circle would have been better
I told it that and it smacked me
we are all dangling in something
something’s the dangler of all of us
it’s ok to not know where you are
the circle ended and immediately began
